Why we built Instiglio
We want to close the gap between what is proven to work and what is actually done in international development.
“Instiglio” is derived from the Esperanto word for “incentives”, and that’s precisely what we’re working towards – providing the right incentives for impact. By tying the funding of social programs to their outcomes, we are shifting the mentality away from traditional development funding that focuses on activities and inputs rather than results and impact.
This incentivizes high-impact program implementation and places the welfare of vulnerable communities at the center of every decision made and every action taken. By providing technical assistance in creating and implementing Impact Bonds and other Results-Based Financing projects, we hope to catalyze a culture of excellence within international development that improves the effectiveness of social programs on the lives of those they serve.

Values
Community
Work for the collective, not for the individual.
Trust your teammates – know that they’re working for the well-being of all.
Fair
Work with the conviction that everyone deserves the right to live remarkable lives regardless of their circumstances.
Give everyone access to the same opportunities.
Treat others the way you would want them to treat you.
Drive for impact
Focus on activities that are likely to lead to the best possible results.
Aim for effectiveness over efficiency- always be questioning “will this next step yield the greatest positive impact?”
Choose the path forward that will add the most value to the mission.
Collaborative
Remember that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts – think about how you can involve others to enhance your work.
Don’t limit yourself to your job title – when you see you can help out, help out.
Thoughtfulness
Consider all perspectives, factors, and possible outcomes before rushing to conclusions.
Put yourself in the other’s shoes from beginning to end
Learning & Growth
Be insatiably curious – be sure to ask questions and answer those you’re asked.
Find opportunities to apply new things you’ve learned and to teach others things you know.
Be proactive about your learning – ask for others to train you in something that interests you.
Integrity
Have the audacity to stand up for what you know is right and the humility to admit when you’ve made a mistake.
Don’t compromise your values for short-term gains.
Tell others what they need to hear, not what they want to hear.
